About This Job

The Louisiana Special School District (LSSD) is an education service agency who provides services to the Louisiana Special Schools (Louisiana School for the Deaf, Louisiana School for the Visually Impaired and Special School Programs). The schools provide educational opportunities to students with low-incidence disabilities and a variety of unique needs. Join Our Team as a Residential Advisor – Louisiana Special School District.

As a Residential Advisor, you'll play a vital role in promoting positive behavior, fostering life skills, and helping students reach their full potential both inside and outside the classroom. This rewarding position offers the opportunity to work in a collaborative team setting where your compassion, leadership, and commitment truly matter. Fluency in American Sign Language is preferred; but not a requirement to be considered for the Residential Advisor Position.

Job Duties and Other Information

Job Duties:

  • Provides guidance, direction, and support to promote students' personal growth, independence, and social skills.
  • Assists students with daily living activities, homework, and the development of life skills.
  • Maintains a positive and respectful living environment that encourages cooperation and good citizenship.
  • Plans, organizes, and participates in recreational, social, and educational activities.
  • Monitors student behavior and addresses issues in accordance with established policies and procedures.
  • Communicates with staff, parents, and administration regarding student needs, concerns, and progress.
  • Maintains required logs, reports, and documentation related to student activities and care.
  • Responds to emergencies and follows established safety and security protocols.

Position-Specific Details:

Appointment Type: Probational or Promotional. If chosen required to take a probationary appointment.

Career Progression: This position may be filled as a Residential Advisor 1, 2, or 3.

Location: The residential department at the Louisiana Special School District.
