Summary:
The Transportation Bus Attendant is responsible for assisting the bus operator, by attending to the physical needs of the special education children on the bus, especially while the bus is in operation. A bus attendant shall be courteous, patient and appropriately dressed.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Rides assigned route on a daily bus and special bus trips. Attends to the physical, mental, and emotional needs of the special education students of the bus. Assists in the loading and unloading of special education students. Provides information to bus operators pertaining to problems related to the special education students. Must respond positively to supervision and to accept suggestions for improvement.
Other duties or tasks may be assigned on an as needed basis.

Minimum requirement as identified by the American with Disabilities Act. The essential functions of the position of a Bus Attendant which include the physical and mental involvement requirements noted in this position description in addition to regular reliable attendance given the limited number of employees available to perform the essential functions of this position. It is also essential that the Bus Attendant be able to follow the directives of superiors in ensuring the harmonious operation of the department.
Qualifications:
A Bus Attendant must be able to communicate in English both oral and written. Bilingual ability is a plus. The Bus Attendant must be able to communicate successfully with students, parents, school personnel, and the general public. TheMust be able to respond appropriately to supervision and accept recommendations. Must demonstrate sensitivity and understanding in interpersonal relations with persons of diverse cultures, backgrounds, physical and mental challenges. Must be able to accurately compile data, analyze and summarize information and provide reports to the Bus Driver and Special Education Transportation Supervisor.
Education and Experience:
Must be 18 years or older and in good mental and physical health. High School diploma or a combination of education and experience equivalent to the ability to follow written instructions required. Experience with children, especially special education children in organized activities is required. Valid CPR certification is preferred. A valid first aid course must be completed during the first six (6) months of employment.
