Description:

On behalf of a client in the public sector, we are seeking a senior accountant to support and manage core accounting functions, with a strong emphasis on general ledger activity, reconciliations, and financial reporting. This is a full-time, on-site position based in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.This role will play a critical part in maintaining accurate financial records, supporting audits, and ensuring compliance with applicable policies and standards. The ideal candidate is a detail-oriented accounting professional with strong technical skills, a proactive mindset, and a willingness to leverage technology to improve processes and efficiency.Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following: Prepare and record asset, liability, revenue, and expense entries by compiling and analyzing account information, with a strong emphasis on general ledger accuracy and integrityPrepare, balance, and maintain general ledger activity and produce monthly financial statementsPerform detailed reconciliations across multiple accounts, including operating and custodial bank accounts, and investigate discrepancies as neededResearch and prepare schedules related to revenue distributions, ad valorem reports, and other funding sourcesPrepare and reconcile monthly deposit activity, ensuring proper classification and documentationMaintain and effectively utilize the organization's accounting system (currently MIP or similar), including identifying opportunities to improve system usageAssist with investment and/or retirement-related accounting, including preparation of related schedules and reportingPrepare and file required federal and state tax and withholding formsSupport the annual audit process, including preparation of schedules and timely response to auditor requestsReview daily financial activity, classify transactions appropriately, and ensure accurate and timely postingReconcile account balances, proactively identify discrepancies, and ensure the overall reliability of financial dataMaintain organized, audit-ready accounting records and supporting documentationSupport month-end close activities, including journal entries, reconciliations, and financial reportingIdentify opportunities to enhance accounting processes, strengthen internal controls, and leverage technology and software tools for efficiencyMinimum qualifications include: Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field, or equivalent professional experienceThree to five years of experience in accounting, with a strong focus on general ledger and reconciliationsStrong knowledge of General Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and financial reporting principlesExperience with month-end close processes and account reconciliationProficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting systemsStrong attention to detail, organizational skills, and problem-solving abilitiesAbility to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environmentAbility to work independently while communicating effectively with stakeholdersPreferred qualifications: Experience with MIP (Momentive/Abila) or similar accounting softwareExperience with retirement, pension, or investment accountingEmergent Method and associated entities are equal opportunity employers.
