The RA will develop and lead research projects related to assessing the functions of natural and restored bottomland hardwood (BLH) forest ecosystems in the southeastern United States. This includes studying the impact of biotic and abiotic stressors on BLH forest species and investigating management alternatives that maximize BLH forest services. Focus should be applied to functions and services valued by modern forest markets and conservation easement programs (e.g., carbon storage, biogeochemical cycling, timber, wildlife).The RA will be encouraged to utilize remote sensing applications, field-based studies, controlled experiments, and other methodologies. Opportunities exist to collaborate with faculty in the LSU AgCenter, other universities, state and federal agencies, and private landowners.Applicants must hold a B.S. in Forestry or a related field and meet LSU Graduate School admission requirements. They should have strong quantitative skills and knowledge of forest ecology. The candidate should exhibit good communication skills, with expectations to publish research in peer-reviewed journals and present at conferences.
