What You'll Be Doing

Primary Responsibilities

  • Plan, organize, and communicate project work to internal teams, project leadership, and clients.
  • Delegate tasks based on team capabilities and provide follow-up support to ensure quality and efficiency.
  • Coordinate with other discipline leads to maintain alignment, progress, and design quality.
  • Track and manage discipline budgets, schedules, deliverables, and quality using project control tools.
  • Validate initial service and construction estimates; track changes throughout project execution.
  • Prepare professional service estimates for deliverables, studies, proposals, and change notices.
  • Manage project scope and issue timely change notices for impacts to cost, schedule, or deliverables.
  • Establish design criteria incorporating client requirements, scope, estimates, and applicable codes.
  • Identify permitting needs and communicate them to the project team.
  • Produce preliminary designs, conceptual layouts, and material take-offs suitable for estimating.
  • Develop detailed design calculations and sketches aligned with design and drafting standards.
  • Ensure designs prioritize constructability, material efficiency, and client expectations.
  • Review and approve all electrical deliverables and check engineering calculations for accuracy and code compliance.
  • Prepare construction specifications and ensure drawings conform to design intent and calculations.
  • Support drafters with layout and detailing needs, providing sketches and guidance as required.
  • Review vendor and inter-discipline drawings for electrical/instrumentation integration.
  • Prepare bid packages for procurement and subcontract pricing.
  • Support staff development through training, mentoring, and professional growth initiatives.
  • Identify work-sharing opportunities and lead interoffice execution to meet scope, schedule, and budget.

Ideal Background

Education: Bachelor or Master of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited university is required.

Registration: Professional Engineering registration is highly preferred.

Experience: This position requires 15 or more years of relevant industrial experience in electrical and instrumentation engineering.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Strong knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NEC) and ability to apply it in design work.
  • Proficient in electrical engineering calculations including lighting levels, wire/conduit sizing, overcurrent protection, voltage drop, conduit/cable tray routing, fill calculations, and motor control center/load center loading.
  • Ability to create accurate electrical installation documents using vendor drawings and develop specifications for equipment such as MCCs, VFDs, motors, substations, switchgear, and 15kV/5kV systems, including short circuit and protective device ratings.
  • Capable of producing 15kV single-line diagrams and familiar with related equipment and installation methods (above and below ground).
  • Skilled in developing design criteria, scopes of work, installation specs, material quantities, cost estimates, engineering schedules, and man-hour budgets.
  • Experience in estimating, scheduling, and evaluating progress/quality of electrical and instrumentation deliverables.
  • Strong understanding of engineering and design workflows; able to follow company CAD and design standards.
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD and/or MicroStation.
  • Experience with PLC, HMI, and DCS programming or integration.
  • Ability to lead small teams, provide interoffice support, and deliver effective presentations.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook; strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Comfortable collaborating in virtual or distributed teams.
