The overall function of this position is to serve as a construction project inspector in the DeRidder construction office (Unit 227), Beauregard parish, District 07. The incumbent works under the direct supervision of a Construction Engineering Supervisor in the unit. The incumbent is responsible for assuring quality materials and workmanship are used to construct DOTD projects in accordance with DOTD project specifications. The incumbent is required to perform office work as well as out-door work in various weather/terrain conditions. Some night time, weekend, and holiday work may be required. The incumbent must be self-motivated and be able to perform project inspection and management duties with minimal supervision and also be able to apply engineering principles to solve construction problems as they arise. The incumbent must participate in the appropriate DOTD structured training programs and attend all continuing education classes required for the position. While in official capacity, DOTD employees must comply with applicable Louisiana and Civil Service laws, rules, and regulations, as well as DOTD policies, procedures, manuals, and directives.

Minimum Qualifications
Possession of a high school diploma or GED; OR
Six months of experience in sub-professional engineering, heavy mobile equipment operation, or mobile equipment maintenance.

Job Duties and Other Information
Job Duties:
- Inspects various aspects of construction projects such as portland cement concrete pavement, structural concrete, embankment and base course, asphaltic concrete, bridges, airport runways, drainage facilities, and other structures. Ensures that work has been completed according to DOTD policies and procedures, plans, and specifications.
- Computes and documents item quantities, samples materials, inspects construction work, and documents daily work activities as a project progresses. Uses a computer and /or IPad to document sampled material, daily work activities, pay quantities, emails, and other information needed for project management. Performs field measurements, cross sections, and survey layout work to check plan accuracy. Uses computer programs such as SiteManager, Headlight, LIMS, Projectwise, Excel, Word, Outlook, etc.
- Creates and gathers project documentation to initiate partial estimates, final estimates, and the 2059's (ATM) submittals. Assists with as-built plan mark-ups.
- Assists and trains lower level Construction Inspectors in project inspection duties.
- Performs other duties, obtain construction certifications, training and functions as assigned by Project Engineer.
- May be required to perform other duties as necessary including, but not limited to, emergency/disaster support activities.

Compensation: Below is the starting hourly rate for each level. Additionally, this position receives an additional $2.00/hour Premium Pay for every hour worked.

- Construction Inspector 2 - $17.15/hourly
- Construction Inspector 3 - $19.63/hourly
- Construction Inspector 4 - $22.47/hourly
