Mechanical Integrity Inspector

We are seeking a highly skilled Mechanical Integrity Inspector holding API 510, API 570, and API 653 certifications to support our facility's mechanical integrity and reliability programs. This position plays a key role in ensuring the safe, compliant, and efficient operation of pressure vessels, piping systems, and aboveground storage tanks within an industrial environment. Other duties may be assigned.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Inspection & Integrity Assessments

  • Conduct inspections of pressure vessels (API 510), piping systems (API 570), and aboveground storage tanks (API 653).

  • Perform internal, external, and on-stream evaluations of all fixed equipment.

  • Assess equipment condition, corrosion mechanisms, deterioration, and structural integrity.

  • Perform thickness studies, calculate remaining life, and establish inspection intervals.

  • Applicants must be legally authorized to work for ANY employer in the United States. Austin is unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment visa for this position.

Repair Oversight & Compliance

  • Review and approve repair plans, welding procedures, and alteration scopes.

  • Oversee mechanical repairs and verify compliance with API codes and jurisdictional requirements.

  • Interpret NDE results (UT, MT, PT, RT, vacuum box testing, settlement surveys, etc.).

  • Support compliance with OSHA PSM, MI requirements, and company policies.

Documentation & Data Management

  • Create detailed inspection reports, repair recommendations, and regulatory documentation.

  • Maintain accurate equipment files, corrosion data, and inspection histories.

  • Provide input and updates for risk-based inspection (RBI) programs.

  • Assist with turnaround planning and mechanical integrity scope development.

T echnical Support

  • Collaborate with engineering, maintenance, and operations teams.

  • Provide technical insight regarding damage mechanisms, metallurgy, and equipment design.

  • Participate in failure investigations and root cause analyses.

  • Support continuous improvement of the facility's mechanical integrity program.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required

  • API 510 Pressure Vessel Inspector

  • API 570 Piping Inspector

  • API 653 Aboveground Storage Tank Inspector

  • Strong understanding of fixed equipment design, fabrication, corrosion, and NDE.

Preferred

  • AWS CWI

  • NACE/AMPP certification

  • STI SP001

  • Experience with RBI software or inspection data systems

  • Working knowledge of API 579 Fitness for Service

Experience

  • Minimum 3-5 years of relevant industry experience in refining, petrochemical, chemical, or similar industrial settings.

  • Proficient in interpreting engineering drawings, P&IDs, isometrics, and structural documentation.

Certification / License: A valid Driver's License and a TWIC Card.
