Job Overview

The Turnaround QA Technicians act as the primary interface between contractor QC inspectors, QA Coordinators, and other members of the turnaround team. Their main duty is to monitor contractor performance in the field—helping ensure the quality of work meets plant expectations.

Day-to-Day Responsibilities

  • Spend 80% of the day in assigned areas observing contractor activities.
  • Audit contractor flange inspections for proper execution by Qualified Flange Inspectors.
  • Audit contractor flange make-up to ensure compliance with the Site Flange Makeup Procedure.
  • Audit contractor work for adherence to plant procedures, EMETL practices, and pipe specifications.
  • Spot check materials (nuts, bolts, gaskets, piping, valves, etc.) for correct installation and green PMI tags. If not PMI'ed, items must be re-verified or replaced.
  • Ensure proper material handling and storage as per G8S-6500-10 ("Welding Material Control"), G8S-6500-11 ("Materials Segregation"), and contractor's TA Quality Plan.
  • Spot check leak detection tubing installation.
  • Validate completion of touch-up/repair painting; ensure contractor QCs are tracking repairs.
  • Assist inspectors with photos, documentation, etc., at hold or witness points as needed.
  • Verify that contractor quality checklists and reports are completed and submitted according to the TA Quality Plan.
  • Review documentation upon completion, organize field walks and sign-offs per the RTO process, and collaborate with contractor QA representatives to close punch lists.
  • Learn and verify tubing fitting assembly; ensure correct procedures are followed.
  • Cooperate with QAQC team and TACs for RTO systems/jobs; organize field walks and log deficiencies.
  • Forward documents requiring archiving to the TA documenter.
  • Generate non-conformance reports for deviations from plant or contractor practices, specifications, procedures, or TA Quality Plans.
  • Update the Quality Team shift activity log for effective communication across shifts.
  • Comply with all EH&S and LHC TA Safety Plan requirements.

Required Qualifications

  • 2–5 years of chemical plant and skilled craft experience
  • Basic computer skills (Outlook, Word, Excel, Internet Explorer, Access)
  • Ability to work effectively in a team; good interpersonal skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Current, valid US driver's license
  • Willingness to adhere to all safety policies—including smoke/tobacco and drug-free workplace
  • Self-starter with the ability to prioritize and multi-task
  • Ability to work within an empowered team environment
  • Familiarity with SAP, CPPS, site equipment/drawing files, and TA work processes/procedures is helpful but not required
