As a Border Protection Officer (BPO), you will play a vital role in a workforce of over 60,000 committed professionals enforcing laws and regulations to safeguard the American people. Your key responsibilities include:

• Enforcing customs, immigration, and agricultural laws.
• Facilitating legitimate trade and travel.
• Conducting thorough inspections of individuals and vehicles.
• Determining admissibility of individuals seeking entry into the United States.
• Preventing illegal entry and the smuggling of contraband.

Salary, Responsibilities, and Incentives

Newly hired Border Protection Officers will enjoy a variety of recruitment incentives, including annual bonuses of up to $15,000 in select high-demand locations. The base pay varies based on experience and education, starting from:

• GS-5: $40,332 - $109,952 per year.

Additionally, fully trained officers can earn up to $45,000 in overtime pay. This position offers clear career advancement through various grade levels (GS-5 to GS-12) with promotions based on performance.

Requirements:

To qualify for the GS-5 grade level:

• A minimum of three years of general work experience, or
• A bachelor's degree from an accredited institution, or
• A combination of education and experience.

For the GS-7 grade level, you will need:

• One year of specialized experience, or
• A bachelor's degree with Superior Academic Achievement, or
• A combination of experience and graduate education.

Additional requirements include:

• U.S. Citizenship is required to apply.
• A resident of the U.S. for at least three of the last five years.
• Under the age of 40 upon selection, unless you have qualifying military or federal law enforcement experience.

Training: All selected candidates will undergo formal training, which includes a two-week paid orientation followed by 101 days at the CBP Field Operations Academy. Specialized training may be required for specific duty locations.
