Job Description:
SCOPE: The Patient Advocate is responsible for helping patients navigate financial assistance programs to reduce financial barriers to care. This role serves as a liaison between patients, providers, internal departments, and external assistance programs to ensure timely, accurate, and compliant access to financial support. The Advocate plays a critical role in patient satisfaction, financial clearance, and organizational mission fulfillment.
FUNCTIONS:
1. Patient Education & Advocacy: Serve as a trusted resource for patients and families by educating and guiding them through available financial assistance options to reduce barriers to care.
2. Eligibility Screening & Application Support: Assess patient eligibility and support accurate, timely completion of financial assistance applications.
3. Case Management, Coordination & Follow-Up: Assess patient eligibility and support accurate, timely completion of financial assistance applications.
4. Compliance, Quality & Performance Management: Ensure all financial assistance activities are compliant, accurate, and aligned with quality and productivity standards.
QUALIFICATIONS:
High school diploma or equivalent required
Associates or bachelor's degree preferred
Minimum of 1-3 years of experience in healthcare financial services, patient access, billing, or related field
Knowledge of insurance types (commercial, Medicare, Medicaid) and healthcare revenue cycle processes
Working knowledge of ICD-10 and CPT coding, as well as professional and outpatient billing processes
Experience with oncology or healthcare systems such as Candid, AssistPoint, OncoEMR, and MOSAIQ preferred; training provided as needed
