Position Overview:

This Buyer position is critical for managing Fasteners and other Essential Exterior Commodities. You'll be instrumental in executing supply chain strategies, optimizing costs, nurturing supplier relationships, and enhancing overall supply chain efficiency.

Your Responsibilities Include:

  • Strategic Sourcing & Negotiation:

  • Perform sourcing activities to ensure high-quality parts at competitive costs for Ford, meeting project timelines.

  • Stay informed on program sourcing milestones to support successful launches.

  • Collaborate with the Category Manager to determine the supplier bid list, factoring in industry trends and strategic analyses.

  • Create supplier strategies with the Category Manager's insight to achieve timely sourcing while managing costs, quality, and risks.

  • Present compelling sourcing decisions to executive leadership with clarity and effectiveness.

  • Provide constructive feedback to suppliers about their cost positions and establish long-term partnerships.

  • Support quality initiatives by holding suppliers accountable to standards and achieving sourcing goals.

  • Business Plan Development:

  • Formulate and execute effective negotiation strategies to enhance material efficiency and minimize cost growth.

  • Craft material cost roadmaps in line with corporate objectives to ensure business viability.

  • Collaborate with the strategic Category Manager and Global Commodity Team to stay updated on supply base conditions, financial health, and technological advancements.

  • Work with Supply Chain and Finance to develop an integrated commodity cost outlook.

  • Identify opportunities for cost savings through negotiations, design efficiencies, and complete supply chain improvements.

  • Lead supplier review meetings to discuss quality, costs, and delivery metrics.

  • Supply Continuity & Support:

  • Assist the Critical Supply Team in addressing part quality and supply shortages.

  • Collaborate with engineering to explore alternative technologies or suppliers to ensure product availability.

  • Additional Duties:

  • Travel as necessary for supplier engagements or internal collaborations.

  • Champion process improvement initiatives regardless of scale.

  • Work collaboratively to ensure timely material delivery with high quality.

  • Engage in internal and external workshops to promote continuous improvement.

  • Hold effective meetings with suppliers to swiftly resolve issues and strengthen relationships.

Your Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree

  • 3+ years of procurement experience, preferably in the automotive sector

  • 3+ years' experience with manufactured commodities and processes

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and procurement software, with strong Excel analytics skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree

  • 5+ years in procurement, ideally in the automotive industry

  • Experience with steel components, including negotiations and market trends

  • Strong business acumen and excellent communication skills

  • Proven ability to foster collaboration among teams and suppliers

  • Proficiency in multitasking and meeting deadlines effectively

  • Analytical mindset for evaluating sourcing and cost situations

  • Strong negotiation skills and a strategic approach to problem-solving

  • Understanding commodity cost drivers and breakdowns

  • Creative, energetic, and eager to expand commodity expertise

  • Exceptional communication skills for proposals and plans

  • Ability to incorporate organizational needs into global strategies

  • Familiarity with Purchasing policies and systems

This role is classified as salary grade 7, with a salary range of $84,480-141,360 or salary grade 8 with a range of $96,720-162,120.
