Raymond Laborde Correctional Center (RLCC), a Class 2 facility with an operational capacity of 1,808 adult male offenders across minimum, medium, and maximum custody levels, is seeking a dedicated and experienced Correctional Lieutenant. The incumbent will serve as a shift supervisor responsible for overseeing staff and offender operations within assigned dormitories, housing units, and compound areas. This leadership role is critical to maintaining safety, security, and orderly facility operations while upholding the mission and standards of RLCC.
Minimum Qualifications
Two years of experience in a correctional, behavioral, or penal institution with responsibility for the security, custody, rehabilitation, or classification of offenders, or in law enforcement or security plus one of the following:
1. Possession of a high school diploma or GED; OR
2. One year of experience in any field; OR
3. Six months of law enforcement experience as a POST certified peace officer.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
An applicant who has been convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence or a felony, or who is under indictment on a felony charge will be disqualified until relief from the disabilities imposed by state and federal laws is granted.
In accordance with the Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA) (Part 115:17) of Title 28 of the Code of Federal Regulations an applicant who has been found to have engaged in any form of sexual abuse; engaged in sexual activity in the community facilitated by force, overt or implied threats of force, or coercion, or if the victim did not consent or was unable or refused will be disqualified.
Applicants must be at least 18 years of age.
Possession of a current driver's license.

Job Duties and Other Information
Job Duties:
- Assigns daily posts and responsibilities to subordinate officers to ensure adequate staffing, proper coverage, and consistent security throughout the facility.
- Provides on-the-job training and guidance, ensuring officers understand their duties, institutional procedures, and expectations for professional conduct and performance.
- Supervises and evaluates staff performance, ensuring all actions comply with institutional policies as well as State and Federal laws. Immediately reports any violations or irregularities to the appropriate supervisory authority.
- Counsels staff and offenders to resolve daily operational issues, addressing concerns that may impact safety, security, or the orderly functioning of the institution.
Position-Specific Details:
Appointment Type: Promotion of a permanent, classified employee of LA DPS&C - CORRECTIONS SERVICES (Adult DOC) - The selected employee may be required to serve a trial detail prior to being permanently promoted or may be required to accept a probational appointment.
Compensation:
This position has a
Special Entrance Rate of $23.03 per hour.
There is
'Premium Pay' for this position: A rate between
$.50 an hour and $1.00 an hour for each hour worked based on years of service with DOC, in addition to regular pay.
