Minimum Qualifications

Possession of a high school diploma or GED plus four years of experience in construction inspection or experience in the maintenance of public streets, roads, bridges, highways, or associated structures; OR

Six months of experience in sub-professional engineering, heavy mobile equipment operation, or mobile equipment maintenance plus four years of experience in construction inspection or experience in the maintenance of public streets, roads, bridges, highways, or associated structures; OR

Twenty-four semester hours in one of the following specialized fields: architecture, cartography, construction management, construction technology, drafting, engineering, engineering graphics, engineering technology, industrial technology, landscape architecture, math, or physics; OR

A bachelor's degree in engineering, engineering technology, construction management, or construction technology; OR

Possession of an engineer intern certificate.

Job Duties and Other Information
Job Duties:

  • Serves as a team leader over a group of DOTD employees engaged in the inspection, surveying and sampling & testing on a wide variety of construction projects.
  • Manages major and minor projects, and performs inspection of contractor's work for compliance with the plans and specifications on such operations as: asphalt roadway, embankment, drainage structures, placement of reinforcing steel for bridges, concrete roadway pavement, box culverts, pile driving, etc.
  • Works directly with the contractor's supervisory personnel to ensure compliance with the plans and specifications. Frequently makes field discussions that require technical knowledge and experience. Performs calculations for determining areas, weights, and volume, etc. for bridge structures and roadways.
