Location: Site Level School

Reports To: School Principal

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Salary Range: Per WBR Salary Schedule

Terms of Employment: 9 Months

GENERAL OVERVIEW

The paraprofessional working in Head Start,Regular Education or Special Education classrooms shall work directly with students under the direct supervision of the principal and classroom teacher(s) to assist with the effective management/instruction of the
class/classes to which he or she is assigned.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Supervises students who have been removed from class for disruptive behavior and assigned to the clinic.
  • Provides emotional support and guidance to students while fostering a structured and positive learning environment that promotes student engagement and well-being.
  • Implements behavior plans and provides one on one intensive behavior support to help reinforce positive behaviors.
  • Provides a nurturing environment wherein strict discipline is maintained.
  • Assists in meeting the instructional/academic needs of the students while assigned to the clinic.
  • Supports teachers in delivering instructional, reinforcing learning activities and providing individual or small group support.
  • Interacts appropriately with students, and assists in creating an environment conducive to learning.
  • Helps students with personal possessions.
  • Maintains discipline standards according to the regulations of the school system and the assigned teacher.
  • Attends faculty meetings, parent conferences, and IEP meetings when requested.
  • Maintains classroom equipment and keeps materials of instruction organized and clean.
  • Maintains student confidentiality.
  • Consults individually and/or in groups with the students assigned to the behavior clinic.
  • When requested by the principal, accompanies students to, the restroom, recess, etc.
  • Monitors the completion of assigned class work given to the students.
  • Maintains accurate and complete records as related to students progress in the behavior clinic.
  • Works with teachers, social workers and counselors to implement plans and support students.
  • Under the direction of the principal, provides information to students, teachers, and parents.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned by the appropriate Supervisor.
Physical Demands:

Medium: Exerts 20-50 pounds of force occasionally, 10-25 pounds frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Must have accomplished at least one of the following:
  1. Passed the Educational Testing Service (ETS) Para-Pro Assessment (ETS Para-Pro Assessment #0755) with a passing score of 450; or
  2. Completed two years of full-time study (48 semester credit hours) from a state-approved or regionally accredited institution of higher education and have 9 hours of English and 9 hours of Math coursework within these 48 semester hours or
  3. Earned an Associate of Arts, Associate of Science, or Associate of Applied Science degree from a state-approved or regionally accredited institution of higher education with 9 hours of English and 9 hours of Math coursework within the Associates degree program
