Maintenance Foreman

The mission of Southern University and A&M College, an Historically Black, 1890 land-grant institution, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, is to provide a student-focused teaching and learning environment that creates global leadership opportunities for a diverse student population where teaching, research, service, scholarly and creative expectations for students and faculty are achieved through the bachelor's, master's, and doctoral programs offered at the institution via different instructional modalities and via public service. This Maintenance Foreman provides supervision to Maintenance Repairers to ensure proper maintenance and upkeep of campus facilities.

Minimum Qualifications

Two years of the required experience for the following minimum qualifications must have been on-the-job experience: Four years of experience or training in the building construction trades, building maintenance, maintenance or repair of mechanical equipment, or park operations and grounds maintenance; OR Completion of a two-year vocational technical program in general building construction, construction technology, or engineering plus two years of experience in the building construction trades, building maintenance, maintenance or repair of mechanical equipment, or park operations and grounds maintenance; OR Twelve semester hours in construction management, construction technology, or engineering, or any combination of these courses plus two years of experience in the building construction trades, building maintenance, maintenance or repair of mechanical equipment, or park operations and grounds maintenance.

Job Duties and Other Information

Job Duties:

  • Inspects buildings, grounds and equipment to determine the need for various types of repairs or maintenance work.
  • Inspects work in process and upon completion for compliance with standards.
  • Makes estimates of cost of labor materials and requisition supplies and equipment.
  • Makes assignments of subordinates or crews providing a variety of maintenance construction of repairs.
  • Prepares timesheets, work schedule and maintenance workorders.

Compensation: The beginning salary is $24.10/hourly
