Job Scope:

The Senior Planning/Scheduling Engineer (EPC) is responsible for developing, maintaining, and analyzing project schedules to support the execution of EPC projects. This role involves collaborating with project teams to develop detailed work plans, monitor progress against timelines, milestones, and identify schedule risks and opportunities.

Develop and maintain project schedules using Primavera P6 scheduling software. Collaborate with project teams to develop detailed work plans and schedules for engineering, procurement, subcontracts, construction, and commissioning activities.

Monitor progress against project schedules timelines and milestones and identify schedule variances and risks. Analyze schedule impacts of changes to project scope, resources, or priorities and develop mitigation strategies. Prepare schedule reports and presentations to communicate schedule status and performance to project stakeholders.

Provide recommendations to optimize project schedules, including resource leveling, critical path analysis, and schedule compression. Coordinate with project teams to resolve schedule-related issues and conflicts. Participate in project meetings and reviews to provide schedule updates and recommendations.

Primary responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

  • The Senior Planning Engineer under the direction of the Lead Planner is responsible for developing and reporting critical path plans and related schedules for the project(s). Apply standard techniques, procedures, and criteria in carrying out planning and scheduling engineering tasks supporting the management of the project.

  • The Senior Planning Engineer is closely involved and facilitates the preparation of the project plan and schedule and must be able to provide accurate and timely status of the project plan.

  • Follows company's established standard processes, procedures and formats required for corporate reporting and deliverables.

  • An active member of the PC Team collaborating and supporting project specific strategies and deliverables.

  • Participates in establishing initial plans by implementing company templates and facilitating interactive planning sessions with key project team members.

  • Assists in the development of schedule breakdown structures in accordance with the predefined requirements and works with the Lead Cost Engineer to ensure seamless integration of P6 and Ecosys coding structures.

  • Prepares drafts of network logic diagrams for segments or the entire project as applicable.

  • Performs forward and backward pass assessments during the preparation of the project schedule and provides critical path analysis highlighting pertinent start and finish dates of milestones and activities.

  • Compiles, organizes planning information, and prepares as applicable to the project stage the related project schedules versions with different levels of detail and criteria including the preliminary, 90 day lookahead and master schedule.

  • Utilizes Primavera P6 as scheduling and reporting tool.

  • Reviews short-cycle schedule impacts and prepares CPM project schedule analysis.

  • Responsible for resource loading the project schedule.

  • Collects, validates, and integrates schedule and earned value progress information from vendors and contractors.

  • Performs detailed analysis on vendor and contractor schedules.

  • Prepares different tabular and graphical schedule timeline and resources reports as required.

  • May collect historical engineering, procurement and construction data for reporting, metrics, and performance analysis.

  • May perform schedule health checks and risk analysis.

  • Assists in the integration of project changes in the schedule forecast.

  • Assists in developing alternatives to accommodate changes and priorities.

  • Attends project meetings and participates by providing the applicable reports.

  • Facilitates meetings with key project team members, vendors, and contractors to address and update the project schedule status and forecast.

  • Provides proactive and accurate schedule management assessments to assist the project management team.

  • Collects vendors and subcontractor schedules and provides effective analysis and reporting of status, and impact to the critical path and overall integrated schedule.

Ideal Background

Bachelor's degree in engineering, construction management, or a related field. Vast experience working as a planning/scheduling engineer or project controls specialist in EPC mega projects in the oil and gas, petrochemicals, and industrial gases industries. 15+ years of experience may be accepted in leu of bachelor's degree.

Proficiency in Primavera P6 scheduling software. Proven experience in the application of project management principles and techniques, including schedule development, resource management, earned value management, and risk management/analysis. Experience using Deltek Acumen is preferred. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to work effectively in a team environment.

  • Ability to effectively discuss and correspond with engineering disciplines and/or contractors to ascertain and understand pertinent information concerning schedules, scopes of work, estimates and/or project costs.

  • Coaching and mentoring skills and experience.

  • Excellent listening and communication skills, both verbal and written.

  • Excellent organizational skills.

  • Knowledge of other disciplines deliverable development to ensure coordination of efforts.

  • Knowledge and understanding of schedule constraints and information requirements for the production of all project controls deliverables.

  • Ability to develop a construction cost estimate, a detailed engineering schedule and a man-hour budget for a small project or an area for a larger project.

  • Ability to determine construction material quantities.

  • Experienced in estimating and scheduling professional service hours and assessing the progress and quality of project controls work. Ability to accurately estimate completion of assigned tasks.

  • Proficient in the use of Primavera P6 and Microsoft Project scheduling software and Timberline Estimating software.

  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to sit, stand, or walk for long periods of time.
