We accomplish this mission by working with local, regional, state, and federal partners to plan, design, construct, operate, and maintain projects that will reduce the probability and risk of flooding for the residents and businesses within our jurisdiction.
About this position:
The Mechanic Supervisor A provides supervision, guidance, and logistical support in the Mechanical Maintenance Shop. The position is a working supervisor over the Mechanical Maintenance Shop. This group performs preventive maintenance and repairs to all fleet vehicles, including Levee Board Police fleet, passenger cars, pick-up trucks, flood gate and flood wall maintenance vehicles, 1.5 ton trucks (crew trucks), trash trucks, 5 yard dump trucks, 10 yard dump trucks, tractor-trailer trucks, forklifts, light and heavy trailers, grass cutting equipment such as Interstater Tractors, riding mowers, small equipment like string trimmers, and chain saws, compact and large front end loaders, bulldozers, backhoes, and excavators. This list is not all-inclusive.
Minimum Qualifications
Four years of experience or training as a mechanic.

Job Duties and Other Information
Job Duties:
The Mechanic Supervisor A receives supervision from the Operations and Maintenance Director and the Mechanic Supervisor B by broad review of work accomplished and results obtained. The position exercises direct line supervision over lower-level mechanics and trades apprentices. The position may supervise other personnel on a permanent or temporary basis as the agency's needs warrant. In the absence of the Mechanic Supervisor B, the Mechanic Supervisor A may be designated and required to assume the duties and responsibilities of that position.
- Manage all aspects of the operation of the Vehicle Maintenance Section of the Mechanical Maintenance Shop.
- Ensure that all work is performed in accordance with accepted standards of the trade and in accordance with established safety practices and procedures.
- Ensure that work areas are properly maintained and free of safety hazards.
- Determine the probable nature of repairs by obtaining from the vehicle driver a description of any abnormal noises, malfunctions, or quirks in operation.
- Complete a worksheet describing the problem, probable cause of the malfunction, and a projected required parts list.
- Establish work schedules for subordinates and assign specific work projects.
- Issue written and oral instructions to subordinates regarding which vehicles need repairs and set priorities or deadlines for the completion of such.
- Provide guidance and technical assistance to subordinates when necessary. Assist in training and developing new hire mechanics.
- Actively perform supervisory and personnel career development duties related to the Louisiana State Civil Service, Continuous Performance Management system, by conducting planning and evaluation sessions with subordinates
