Enforcement Cadet Job With Louisiana Department Of Wildlife And Fisheries

The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries is responsible for managing and protecting the state's renewable natural resources, including all wildlife and aquatic life. LDWF supports a strong work ethic in its employees and incorporates the use of good science, accurate information and technology. The Office of the Secretary exists to provide leadership and support services, administrative direction, and accountability for departmental programs; administrative direction and leadership to ensure the success of subordinate programs; and department-wide coordination, communication, personnel and basic resources needed to accomplish the department's mission.

The Department of Wildlife and Fisheries is currently accepting applications for Enforcement Cadets. These positions are responsible for the patrol of public and private land and water, including federal waters, using a variety of specialized equipment while enforcing laws, rules and regulations to protect and preserve the fish and wildlife resources, provides public safety services on the water ways of the state. Incumbents are subject to being on-call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Minimum qualifications include two years of law enforcement experience as a POST certified peace officer commissioned with the power of arrest; or an associate's degree from a technical college or completion of a two-year program at a vocational or technical school; or three years of continuous active military duty (all Military Occupational Specialties apply). Experience substitution is available. Necessary special requirements include willingness and ability to attain a Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) certification, applicants must be at least 18 years of age, and possession of a valid Louisiana driver's license. Applicants who have been convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence or a felony, or who are under indictment on a felony charge will be disqualified by the hiring agency until relief from the disabilities imposed by state and federal laws is granted.

Job duties include participating in all academy training while assigned to the Waddill Training Academy, patrolling public/private land and waters, including federal waters, using a variety of specialized equipment while enforcing laws, rules and regulations to protect and preserve the fish and wildlife resources, providing public safety service on the waterways of the state, and may be assigned to work and coordinate investigations in an undercover or covert capacity and may be required to infiltrate illegal activities involving fish and wildlife or other operations under the jurisdiction of the Department of Wildlife and Fisheries.

Position-specific details include appointment type, compensation, career progression, and location. These positions have a Special Entrance Rate (SER) of $25.96/hour / $2076.80/bi-weekly base pay. The positions may be filled as a Wildlife Enforcement Cadet, Wildlife Enforcement Agent, Wildlife Enforcement Senior Agent, or Wildlife Enforcement Corporal.
