The Driver Assistant contributes to advancing the mission of St. Vincent de Paul ("SVDP") by providing essential support to transportation operations across the organization. This position assists with the collection, loading, transfer, and delivery of donated goods, merchandise, and requested items between various organizational locations including stores, distribution centers, shelters, administrative offices, and dining facilities. The Driver Assistant works collaboratively with Drivers to ensure efficient logistics operations while representing the organization with professionalism and courtesy. The incumbent is expected to represent and uphold the mission and values of SVDP in all aspects of their work.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education, Experience & Certifications:
High School Diploma or GED equivalent is preferred
Valid driver's license preferred but not required
Other Qualifications:
Possess sufficient reading comprehension abilities to understand and implement established operational procedures
Demonstrate respect for the teachings and traditions of the Catholic Church and the mission of SVDP
Physical Demands:
Maintain ability to stand and ambulate for extended periods of up to eight (8) hours
Perform manual dexterity tasks requiring use of hands and arms for reaching, grasping, and manipulating objects
Utilize verbal communication, auditory, and visual capabilities for extended durations
Safely navigate lifts, ladders, steps, and stairways while maneuvering furniture and merchandise
Execute various postural movements, including stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling
Lift and move items weighing up to fifty (50) pounds on occasional basis unassisted
Lift and move items weighing up to fifty plus (50+) pounds on an occasional basis with assistance
Working Environment:
Full-time position operating in various settings, including but not limited to, warehouse and retail environments
Schedule flexibility required, including potential evening, weekend, and holiday shifts as necessitated by business requirements
Frequent exposure to outdoor weather conditions during pick-up and delivery operations
Occasional proximity to moving mechanical parts
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES/PERFORMANCE STANDARDS:
Transportation Support Operations
Consistently demonstrate punctuality and reliability in attendance
Assist Driver with navigation and route planning to maximize efficiency of daily pickup and delivery schedules
Support loading and securing of merchandise in vehicles to maximize capacity while ensuring load stability and safety
Handle all merchandise with appropriate care to prevent damage to items and property
Assist with unloading merchandise to designated receiving areas at store and distribution center locations
Collect non-saleable materials including rags from retail locations according to established schedule
Support Driver in evaluation donated items for quality, condition, and cleanliness according to organizational standards
Safely maneuver furniture items of various sizes and conditions in diverse environmental settings
Maintain an organized work environment in the vehicle and loading areas
Assist with routine vehicle inspections as directed by Driver or Assistant Director
Document any merchandise damage that occurs during transit
Provide excellent customer service to donors during pickup operations
Distribution Center and Administrative Support
Support distribution center operations during non-delivery periods including sorting, organizing, and preparing donations
Assist with inventory management and organization in distribution center facilities
Complete donation receipts and other required documentation accurately
Communicate effectively with Driver regarding pickup and delivery status
Report any safety concerns or operational issues to Driver or Assistant Director
Maintain accurate records of activities as required
Assist with cleaning and organizing distribution center and vehicle areas
Perform additional duties as assigned by management
