Job Description
I. JOB TITLE: Custodian JOB TYPE: 702 POSITION REPORTS TO: Head Custodian PAY GRADE: MNT-1 FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt ASSIGNMENT PERIOD 260 days
II. SUMMARY OF POSITION'S PURPOSE
Ensures that school premises are properly maintained by providing basic custodial services.
III. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
A. EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION - 8th grade education or its equivalent.
B. EXPERIENCE - 0 to 6 months of basic work experience
C. SKILLS - Basic knowledge of school custodial activities.
D. OTHER REQUIREMENTS - Must be capable of lifting 25 or more pounds on a daily basis. This position requires exposure to heat/cold/chemicals on a daily basis. Climbing, dexterity and the ability to work in a standing position are daily requirements of this position.
IV. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
* Cleans classrooms and restrooms to include vacuuming carpeted areas and providing routine custodial maintenance of athletic facilities.
* Dust mops hallways.
* Picks up litter on school premises and empties garbage cans.
* Locks and unlocks school buildings.
* Assists the principal, assistant principal and teachers with routine maintenance and delivery tasks.
* Provides routine maintenance to include changing air conditioning filters, changing light bulbs, handling touch-up paint jobs, floor preparation (stripping, waxing & buffing), cleaning windows/base boards, and prompt removal of all graffiti from walls.
* Provides courteous and prompt service to all internal and external customers including students, parents, co-workers, etc. Prioritizes and addresses requests and assignments in a professional manner to develop cooperative relationships and to ensure that student and employee records confidentiality is assured.
* Identifies opportunities and recommends methods to improve service, work processes and financial performance, e.g. expense management. Assists in the implementation of quality improvement initiatives.
* Assists co-workers in the completion of tasks and assignments to ensure continuity of service. Orients new co-workers and actively supports teamwork throughout the school system.
* Performs other services as required.
