Maintenance Foreman

The Louisiana Office of Juvenile Justice (OJJ) is committed to providing safe and effective individualized services to youth, who will become productive, law-abiding citizens. We are seeking a skilled and dependable Maintenance Foreman to lead facility maintenance operations and supervise a team of repair personnel. This role is critical to ensuring that secure care environments remain safe, functional, and compliant with state standards. The ideal candidate will bring hands-on technical expertise, leadership experience, and a commitment to maintaining high-quality infrastructure in support of youth rehabilitation and staff safety.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Two years of the required experience for the following minimum qualifications must have been on-the-job experience:
    • Four years of experience or training in the building construction trades, building maintenance, maintenance or repair of mechanical equipment, or as a parks building and grounds attendant;
    • Completion of a two-year vocational technical program in general building construction, construction technology, or engineering plus two years of experience in the building construction trades, building maintenance, maintenance or repair of mechanical equipment, or as a parks building and grounds attendant;
    • Twelve semester hours in construction management, construction technology, or engineering, or any combination of these courses plus two years of experience in the building construction trades, building maintenance, maintenance or repair of mechanical equipment, or as a parks building and grounds attendant.

Job Duties:

  • Supervise maintenance staff and assign daily work orders and repair tasks;
  • Oversee repairs and upkeep of facility systems including HVAC, plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and grounds;
  • Conduct inspections and ensure compliance with safety codes and agency standards;
  • Maintain inventory of tools, equipment, and supplies; coordinate procurement as needed;
  • Train and mentor maintenance personnel in proper techniques and safety procedures;
  • Respond to emergency repair needs and prioritize tasks based on operational urgency;
  • Maintain accurate records of work performed, materials used, and time spent;
  • Collaborate with facility leadership to plan preventive maintenance and capital improvements.
