Software Engineer

Develop and maintain end-to-end test pipelines for Red Hat managed services. Provide level of effort (LOE) estimates for software projects to plan delivery dates for new features.

*Telecommuting role to be performed anywhere in the U.S.

What You Will Do:

  • Collaborate with other engineers and architects to create and review software design proposals on the dimensions of feasibility, scalability, security, maintainability, and fitness to purpose.
  • Analyze system performance metrics to perform capacity planning activities and to resolve system performance issues.
  • Respond to and resolve high priority production alerts on a follow-the-sun schedule, following standard operating procedures (SOP).
  • Write automated testing routines to verify the continued correct operation of new and existing features of Red Hat's managed cloud service offering of the OpenShift container orchestration platform.
  • Build framework and integration documentation for development teams. Promote system changes through an automated continuous integration / continuous delivery (CI/CD) system and use automated system monitoring software to assess its ongoing performance and operation.
  • Review requests for enhancement (RFE) with product managers to establish system requirements and designs.
  • Design and develop new software as required to automate the building, testing, deployment, promotion, monitoring, alerting, and maintenance of Red Hat's growing suite of cloud-native applications.
  • Participate in an on-call rotation for rapid incident response to customer emergency alerts.
  • Take ownership of the delivery pipeline architecture, ensuring successful execution and alignment with business objectives.
  • Lead the onboarding process for new engineers for projects, provide guidance and support.
  • Be accountable for contractor performance, ensuring their contributions align with project goals and deliverables.

What You Will Bring:

  • Bachelor's degree (U.S. or foreign equivalent) in Computer Science or related field and five (5) years of experience in the job offered or related role.
  • Must have five (5) years of experience with: Python, Golang, Java, C, C++ or another object-oriented language; managing Linux-based systems in a public cloud; and enterprise systems monitoring.
  • Must have four (4) years of experience debugging, optimizing code and automating routine tasks.
  • Must have three (3) years of experience with: containers on Linux; and Kubernetes or OpenShift.
  • Must have two (2) years of experience with: delivering hosted cloud services; and leading technical projects, including facilitating internal meetings with technical teams to ensure project deliverables are timely met and planned.
  • Must have experience with: standard TCP or IP networking and common protocols; and troubleshooting production system issues.

The salary range for this position is $157,248 - $191,840. Actual offer will be based on your qualifications.

Pay transparency Red Hat determines compensation based on several factors including but not limited to job location, experience, applicable skills and training, external market value, and internal pay equity. Annual salary is one component of Red Hat's compensation package. This position may also be eligible for bonus, commission, and/or equity. For positions with Remote-US locations, the actual salary range for the position may differ based on location but will be commensurate with job duties and relevant work experience.
