Qualifications
- 4 to 6 years experience building layouts using HTML, JS and CSS
- Has a rock-solid understanding of the fundamentals of HTML, CSS and JS without the use of libraries or frameworks.
- Has experience using a variety of libraries and frameworks (UI and JS) and knows when they are appropriate to use.
- Is highly proficient in styling layouts using any technique, from columns, to css-grid or flex-box.
- Is comfortable working with intermediate to advanced vanilla JS components that drive interactions on the front-end.
- Can write fully accessible code using browser-supported techniques (roles, aria-attributes, semantic structure, labeling, etc.) but also write custom functionality for advanced interactions (menus, dialogue windows, etc.).
- Can work with advanced SASS and CSS, including the newest techniques.
- Has experience using build-tools (packagers, compilers, live-servers, minifies, etc.) and creating build-systems with these tools. In particular experience with Vite as a build tool, and Rollup as a bundler is a plus.
- Is passionate about delivering code that is clear, maintainable and performant.
- Understands how page-load performance affects SEO.
- Ability to switch from one project to another quickly and frequently.
- Has a firm grasp of User Experience concepts and User Interactions.
- Has an understanding of information architecture and can assist with content strategy/organization.
- Is familiar with at least one frontend JS framework (Vue, React, Angular, Svelte, etc.)
- Is familiar with basic fetch/api driven development.
- Is familiar with the basics of state management.
- Is familiar with the basics of security on the frontend.
- Has a basic understanding of design principles such as spacing, color, typography and layout.
- Is comfortable partnering with a back-end developer for seamless integration with a traditional CMS.
- Wordpress/PHP knowledge is a plus, though not required.
Responsibilities
- Coding pixel-perfect web page templates for integration from flat pdf mockups or live design files that accounts for the following variables: screen size, device type, browser, assistive device (if applicable).
- Creating new project builds from scratch, and selecting necessary tools & technology for the job.
- Editing existing codebases (some legacy) that employ a variety of different environments/structures/approaches to include new updates.
- Github management - everything from commits to pull requests.
- Code Testing (QA, accessibility, performance, device) and review.
- Creating browser-based animations and interactions to enhance the UX of a given website.
- Collaborating to create new features, solve problems or increase efficiency.
- Bringing old codebases into compliance (particularly ADA compliance)
- Refactoring old code to match current-day best practices.
