International Rescue Committee (IRC) Refugee Cash Assistance (RCA) Intern

The International Rescue Committee (IRC), works in the United States welcomes newly arrived refugees and immigrants, supports them in their resettlement, and provides holistic services to help them build new lives in their communities. The Refugee Cash Assistance (RCA) program provides newly arrived single adults and couples without children with direct cash assistance critical for transitioning to life under new circumstances, in conjunction with other supportive services such as case management, employment services, and health and wellness support.

Responsibilities

The RCA Intern will assist the RCA Team with the primary functions of cash disbursement, including eligibility determinations, data tracking, trauma-informed communication to clients, and resolving payment-related issues.

  • Assist with monthly redetermination procedures for cash benefits
  • Prepare and disseminate client-facing messages and materials related to their cash assistance
  • Support clients facing challenges regarding their benefits
  • Help maintain critical tracking documents
  • Collect and analyze data to help with program planning

Learning Objectives

1. Intern will learn how direct cash assistance programs function and work in tandem with other supportive services programs.

2. Intern will learn more about eligibility requirements for federal assistance programs and how federal policies affect social services for immigrants.

3. Intern will gain practical experience with using databases, tracking financial data, and working with a culturally diverse range of clients with different needs.

Requirements

Volunteers must be based in the U.S. Interns must be based in US, must be a US citizen or have US work authorization, must be enrolled in post-secondary institution or have graduated from a post-secondary institution within last 2 years.

Proficiency in a second language, preferably Spanish or Haitian Creole, highly desired

Proficiency using Microsoft Office applications preferred

Ability to work 10-20 hours per week
