St. Vincent de Paul Staring Store Associate (FT)

Description:

  1. GENERAL SUMMARY:

The Associate contributes to fulfilling the mission of St. Vincent de Paul ("SVDP") through implementation of effective sales techniques and accurate management of point-of-sale operations. This position is responsible for executing cashiering functions with precision and integrity while providing exceptional customer service, including recovery and cleanliness of sales floor. The Associate reports directly to the Store Manager and does not have any supervisory responsibilities.

  1. Education, Experience & Certifications:
  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent is preferred
  1. Other Qualifications:
  • Possess sufficient reading comprehension abilities to understand and implement established operational procedures
  • Display problem-solving capabilities and ability to work independently in a fast-paced retail environment
  • Demonstrate basic math and computer technology skills
  • Show respect for the teachings and traditions of the Catholic Church and the mission of St. Vincent de Paul
  1. Physical Demands:
  • Maintain ability to stand and ambulate for extended periods of up to eight (8) hours with appropriate rest periods
  • Perform manual dexterity tasks requiring use of hands and arms for reaching, grasping, and manipulating objects
  • Utilize verbal communication, auditory, and visual capabilities for extended durations
  • Occasionally assume seated positions, navigate stairs or inclines; and perform postural movements including stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling
  • Lift and move items weighing up to fifty (50) pounds on occasional basis unassisted
  • Lift and move items weighing up to fifty plus (50+) pounds on an occasional basis with assistance
  1. Working Environment:
  • Position may be structured as full-time (40 hours per week) or part-time based on operational needs
  • Work environment includes both climate-controlled and non-climate-controlled warehouse and retail settings
  • Schedule flexibility required, including potential evening, weekend, and holiday shifts as necessitated by business requirements
  • Periodic exposure to outdoor weather conditions may be necessary

E. Technology Competencies:
  • Demonstrate proficiency with fundamental computer operations and standard office applications
  • Accurately perform data entry tasks with attention to detail
  • Effectively utilize various electronic communication platforms and tools
  • Operate point-of-sale (POS) systems with precision and efficiency
  • Properly use merchandise tagging equipment according to established protocols
  • Correctly operate barcode scanning equipment and label generation devices
  • Manage base printer operations and perform simple troubleshooting procedures

IV. ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES/PERFORMANCE STANDARDS:

A. Customer Service and Cash Handling
  • Create a welcoming atmosphere through sincere, friendly, and helpful customer interactions
  • Maintain an organized, clean, and professional point-of-sale area at all times
  • Handle merchandise with appropriate care throughout the checkout and bagging process
  • Process all financial transactions accurately, including vouchers, cash, and card payments with proper documentation
  • Answer telephone inquiries promptly and professionally, providing appropriate assistance to callers
  • Demonstrate adaptability regarding position responsibilities, including willingness to assist with

donation processing as needed

B. Merchandise Management
  • Participate in merchandise preparation, including sorting, pricing, stocking, and creating appealing displays
  • Ensure sales floor remains organized, clean, and shoppable throughout business hours
  • Monitor and replenish operation supplies, including shopping bags, hangers, receipt paper, and packaging materials
  • Process returned merchandise according to established procedures

C. Facility Maintenance
  • Contribute to the general cleanliness and appearance of the retail environment
  • Perform floor maintenance duties, including sweeping and mopping as assigned
  • Clean interior and exterior windows and doors according to established schedule
  • Maintain display fixtures using appropriate cleaning methods based on surface materials
