Under U.S. Coast Guard regulations, tankermen serve as the person-in-charge of the vessel for cargo transfer operations involving tank barges. Transfers involve all types of liquids including oils and refined products, chemicals, and liquified gases. Tankermen are fully responsible for the transfer include vessel mooring, pre-transfer inspection, opening and closing valves to safely move the cargo on or off the barge, completing required paperwork, and communicating with dock facility personnel. Tankermen work on 24-hour call and without direct supervision.
Applicants must hold licensing and documentation issued by the U.S. Coast Guard, and be able to demonstrate solid experience, integrity, a strong work ethic, a commitment to excellence, and the ability to sustain incident-free operations.
