Research Lab Manager - Integrated Physiology and Molecular Metabolism

Pennington Biomedical Research Center, a world-renowned academic research institute of Louisiana State University, is seeking a Research Lab Manager in the Integrated Physiology and Molecular Metabolism Laboratory.

The Research Lab Manager will be responsible for managing daily laboratory operations and supporting the lab's research mission focused on understanding the molecular and physiological mechanisms that regulate metabolism and disease. This position oversees laboratory organization, including supply and equipment management, safety compliance, and coordination of experimental activities across multiple projects.

The Lab Manager will train and mentor research staff and students, ensure adherence to standard operating procedures, and maintain high-quality standards in data collection and documentation. In collaboration with the principal investigator and research team, the Lab Manager will assist with study design, data management, analysis, and interpretation, as well as contribute to publications, presentations, and grant submissions.

This role also involves hands-on participation in molecular, biochemical, and physiological experiments as needed to advance research objectives. The ideal candidate is proactive, detail-oriented, and skilled at balancing scientific, technical, and administrative responsibilities to foster an efficient and innovative research environment.

Major Responsibilities

  • Oversee daily laboratory operations, including equipment maintenance, inventory management, and ordering of supplies to ensure efficient workflow.
  • Train, mentor, and supervise research staff and students in laboratory techniques, safety protocols, and data management practices.
  • Ensure compliance with institutional, federal, and safety regulations, maintaining accurate records of procedures, reagents, and equipment calibrations.
  • Coordinate and support ongoing research projects by assisting with designing and performing laboratory experiments, including assays, cell culture, and biological analyses.
  • Manage and organize research data, assist in statistical analysis and interpretation, and contribute to the preparation of manuscripts, presentations, and grant proposals.
  • Collaborate with the principal investigator to develop and implement lab policies, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and quality control measures.
  • Perform hands-on molecular, biochemical, and physiological experiments as needed to support lab objectives and deadlines.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in physiology, biology, molecular biology, biochemistry, biomedical sciences, or a related field.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of laboratory experience with proficiency in molecular biology and biochemical techniques (e.g., PCR, Western blotting, ELISA, cell culture, metabolic assays).
  • Familiarity with data collection, analysis, and management tools; experience with statistical software.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects, maintain regulatory compliance, and oversee budgets and purchasing.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving abilities; able to foster a collaborative and efficient research environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • At least one (1) year of experience in a biorepository laboratory.
  • Experience in processing and handling tissue samples, including aliquoting, labeling, sectioning, and storage in various medias.
  • Experience in quality control and regulatory requirements, including Biosafety Level 1 and 2 protocols.
  • Experience in metabolic physiology, energy balance, or related translational research areas.
