Job Description:
The Department of French Studies in the College of Humanities & Social Sciences at Louisiana State University is seeking applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Francophone Caribbean Studies, inclusive of Louisiana and the Gulf Coast, across chronological periods. We seek a candidate with an interdisciplinary research practice including (but not limited to) ecocritical, feminist, cultural studies, historical or anthropological approaches. Experience in digital humanities as it relates to the candidate's field of study, interest in public humanities and innovative pedagogy are encouraged. Designated as one of the "Centers of Excellence" by the Cultural Services of the French Embassy, the Department of French Studies and its Center for French and Francophone Studies are, in addition, part of the network of Chaires Senghor de la Francophonie.
Possibilities for collaboration exist with multiple interdisciplinary programs within the College of Humanities and Social Sciences, including Comparative Literature; Linguistics; African and African-American Studies; Women's, Gender and Sexuality Studies; and with other colleges across the university, including the Ogden Honors College, the Colleges of Music and Dramatic Arts, Art & Design, Coast and the Environment, and Science.
Required Qualifications: The candidate must have a PhD in French Studies or an equivalent degree at the time of employment, as well as four-skills fluency in both French and English. Knowledge of spoken and written creole (including Haitian, Martinican, or Louisiana French) is desirable. The candidate's research in their area of expertise must be commensurate with LSU's Carnegie Classification (Research University - very high research activity).
Responsibilities: A successful candidate will teach undergraduate courses in both French and English, as well as graduate courses in their field of expertise. A successful candidate will have opportunities to supervise and mentor graduate students and serve on graduate committees for students in the DFS and other departments.
