Position Overview

The EH&S Manager is responsible for developing and managing a comprehensive environmental, health and safety program and driving a high-performance safety and compliance culture across the company. This highly visible and strategic role leads the development of a comprehensive operational EHS strategy and drives implementation of that strategy across the manufacturing network. Leveraging data, innovative ideas and best practices, the EHS Manager develops programs and measures to ensure compliance, minimize risk and reduce incidents and exposures. This individual has a proven ability to work within a manufacturing organization to set clear goals, achieve alignment, close gaps in performance and deliver results.

Job Responsibilities

  • Develop, communicate, and execute EHS strategic plans that help the company achieve not only its EHS goals but also align with the process improvement opportunities and growth plans.
  • Develop and implement tactical plans to improve EHS performance and monitor plan implementation. Identify risks and areas of non-compliance, and refine plan as needed to improve compliance and performance.
  • Work closely with leadership to develop a data-driven EHS strategy that leverages industry best practices to achieve best-in-class safety performance.
  • Identify the top areas of focus from a risk and performance perspective and assist in the development of annual and long-term EHS goals and plans, including both lagging and leading indicators.
  • Provide visible leadership and strategic focus to Environment, Health, and Safety initiatives, and partner with senior leaders in raising awareness and correction of potential EHS issues.
  • Lead site and functional EHS management-control-reporting-system (MCRS) process to ensure appropriate periodic reporting and analysis of EHS performance and program implementation status.
  • Work with Operations Leadership to develop training tools and programs that improve Operations and front-line knowledge and skills related to safe performance.
  • Monitor new regulations and EHS standards and develop effective implementation strategies.
  • Participate in capital expense planning and approval process to ensure EHS risks and regulatory requirements are rigorously evaluated and prioritized.
  • Coordinate investigations of EHS compliance matters and support due diligence projects, as needed.
  • Ensure that the company has a data management system that effectively captures and facilitates execution and analysis for EHS related data.
  • Assist in budget planning and overall management of the EHS function.
  • Prepare and deliver EHS reports, disclosures, and communications for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Lead and supervise the Environmental Leader and guide Operations associates on EHS matters as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

  • 7 or more years of experience as an environmental, health and safety professional in a manufacturing/ chemical environment.
  • Experience managing an EHS function or team, including developing and executing strategy, driving results, and coordinating with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of environmental, health and safety standards and regulations in multiple jurisdictions.
  • Strong knowledge of Process Safety Management (PSM) and Industrial Hygiene.
  • Experience working in and knowledge of requirements for a Coast Guard Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) facility.
  • Experience working with regulatory frameworks and influencing change across cultures.
  • Proven ability to identify and implement EHS best practices to improve safety and EHS performance.
  • Good organizational, communication, and networking skills and ability to influence.
  • Self-directed with ability to work in fast paced environment.

Education

  • Bachelor of Science or Master of Science degree in engineering, chemistry, environmental science, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Health, or other technically related field.
  • Professional certifications, such as Certified Safety Professional, preferred.

Travel

  • 20% travel for site visits and meetings.
