Job Description:
The Ancillary Services Schedule Coordinator serves as a central communication hub between primary and ancillary services. The Schedule Coordinator needs to be familiar with the procedures utilized in the ancillary services in order to manage logistics for scheduling these procedures. (For the purposes of this job description, "primary services" refers to Small Animal Internal Medicine, Small Animal Surgery, Ophthalmology, Cardiology, Theriogenology, Community Practice, Dermatology, Integrative Medicine, Oncology, BZEM, Large Animal Internal Medicine, and Large Animal Surgery. "Ancillary services" refers to Anesthesia, Radiology, Central Sterile Supply, and the OR staff.)
Job Responsibilities:
* 30% Coordinates scheduling for ancillary services ensuring all personnel, room, and equipment/supply requirements for each procedure are available. Has a proficient understanding of specific surgery needs for, space, time, and resources for common procedures.
* 30% Receives procedure request forms from primary services and ensures all necessary information is provided on request forms. Double checks patient is present and has followed instructions and policies to prepare for procedure for example, patient ID band on patient, no food per instructions, etc.
* 20% Efficiently communicates each day's schedule, and any changes to the schedule, to the primary parties involved in each procedure. Maintains schedule boards/monitors near/outside of Small Animal Anesthesia prep room.
* 15% Performs short, near-by tasks as able when schedule is stable. Performs anesthesia induction of small animal patients. Perform all aspects related to preparing anesthesia work station and patient for general anesthesia. Tasks include insertion and maintenance of IV catheters, including peripheral or central venous, or arterial catheters; knowledge of anesthesia machine, anesthetic drugs, and endotracheal intubation in canine and feline. Performs surgical clip and/or rough prep of small animal surgical patients in the anesthesia induction area.
* 5% Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree with 3 years of applicable experience OR Associate's degree in veterinary technology with 2 years of applicable experience OR CVT or equivalent with 2 years of applicable experience OR 5 Years of experience in a working environment with similar duties OR 2 years of experience as a Veterinary Technician 1 at LSU Vet Med.

Position is subject to an office environment and must be able to operate a computer, telephone, and other office machinery, remain seated for extended periods of time, bend, squat, twist, move about to accomplish tasks, ability to receive and exchange detailed information through oral and written communication, make substantial movements of the wrists, hands, or fingers.
Per PS 18- This position is a part of the Emergency Response Personnel - these personnel are linked with the hospital during any emergency response event and are expected to report in and perform as outlined in the emergency response plan.
Physical Requirements-Required to be capable of more than 50 pounds, standing or walking for prolonged periods, vision near sight, vision far sight, able to reach above and below the shoulder, climbing, crawling, pushing, pulling, grasping, bending, squatting, and/or twisting.
* Due to the nature of this position and/or responsibilities, this position is subject to random drug & alcohol testing in accordance with University Policy Statement 67*
