About this Job PETROLEUM SCIENTIST 1, 2, OR 3 (ENGINEER)The Injection and Mining Division (IMD) has the responsibility of implementing two major federal environmental programs which were statutorily charged to the Office of Conservation: the Underground Injection Control (UIC) program with federal oversight from the Environmental Protection Administration (EPA) and the Surface Mining Program with federal oversight from the U.S. Department of the Interior, Office of Surface Mining. Office of Conservation Injection & Mining The Petroleum Scientist 1, 2, or 3 is located in the Injection and Mining Division within the Office of Conservation (OC) in Baton Rouge, LA. This position will ensure waste disposal practices regulated by the Injection and Mining Division (IMD) will not result in the introduction of contaminants into surface waters, subsurface geologic strata containing underground sources of drinking water, or endanger mineral resources of the state.
