The Louisiana Department of Insurance is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Insurance Specialist 1 to join the Market Conduct Division. This division ensures insurers operate fairly by examining their business practices and enforcing compliance with state insurance laws. In this role, you'll participate in examinations, review company records and filings, and assist with evaluations of insurer practices in claims, underwriting, marketing, and policyholder services. Minimum Qualifications

Three years of experience in insurance, administrative services, investigations, or law enforcement; OR

Six years of full-time work experience in any field; OR

A bachelor's degree.

EXPERIENCE SUBSTITUTION:
Every 30 semester hours earned from an accredited college or university will be credited as one year of experience towards the six years of full-time work experience in any field. The maximum substitution allowed is 120 semester hours which substitutes for a maximum of four years of experience in any field.

Job Duties and Other Information
Job Duties:
As an Insurance Specialist 1 in the Market Conduct Division, you will:
  • Assist in conducting market conduct examinations of insurance companies, either in-office or on-site, under the supervision of senior staff.
  • Review company records and procedures to determine compliance with the Louisiana Insurance Code and departmental regulations.
  • Examine insurer practices related to claims handling, underwriting, marketing, rating, and policyholder services.
  • Gather, organize, and analyze data from company files, reports, and systems to identify irregularities or areas of concern.
  • Draft and maintain examination work papers and reports, clearly documenting findings and supporting evidence.
  • Collaborate with supervisors and higher-level specialists to develop recommendations for corrective actions when violations or deficiencies are identified.
  • Maintain knowledge of insurance laws, regulations, and standards, applying them consistently to examination work.
  • Participate in training and professional development to build the technical skills needed for more advanced responsibilities in market conduct regulation.
