Education

Required High school diploma or equivalent

Must be enrolled in the LPN Apprentice Program within 30 days of hire

Must successfully pass the Accuplacer exam

Work Experience

Required None

Preferred 1 year of relevant experience

Certifications

Required Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association

Knowledge Skills and Abilities (KSAs)
  • Must have computer skills and dexterity required for data entry and retrieval of information.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills and the ability to present information clearly and professionally.
  • Must be proficient with Windows-style applications, various software packages specific to role and keyboard.
  • Must have reliable computer and internet access during the span of the program to complete assignments and online course modules in a timely fashion.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Organizing and prioritizing skills.
  • Decision-making and delegation skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidential information.
  • Must have reliable transportation from one facility to another.
Job Duties
  • Commits to the scheduled 36 hours a week during the 16-month Practical Nurse Training Program, adhering to the course schedule and time commitment as outlined during orientation.
  • Assumes responsibility to meet competencies and learning milestones outlined in the program.
  • Communicates effectively with co-workers, patients, family and visitors providing observations of the patient and intervening as needed to maintain patient safety.
  • Reports to the program's designated partner Louisiana Technical Community College campus for theorical instruction.
  • Designates half of the time to critical job training in the designated department, while performing clinical rotations throughout the region.
  • Completes face to face clinical theory instruction, simulation labs, and virtual learning platform.
  • Completes practical nursing onboarding specific to the system and departmental needs.
  • Adapts behavior to the specific patient population, including but not limited to: respect for privacy, method of introduction to the patient, adapting explanation of services or procedures to be performed, requesting permissions and communication style.
  • Other related duties as required.
