Job Responsibilities

Models use a variety of short and long poses to enable students in the class to explore representation through line, value, space, proportion, balance, and expression. Poses are sitting and standing for studio classes lasting up to three hours, with breaks every 20-30 minutes based on the difficulty of the pose and the needs of the model. Experience is not required. Dance classes, or other related physical activities, are a nearly ideal preparation for a life model; however, do not worry about having "the perfect physique." Artists work with all body types in understanding the human form and yours will work just fine. Those who are more natural and less model-like are ideal.

Punctuality and reliability are essential. Life drawing and figure painting classes are about working directly from the forms of the model. Students and teachers must be able to rely absolutely on the fact that a model will always be in the studio at the scheduled times. Professionalism is also crucial. Be prepared to undress in a separate space and then bring a robe and sandals to wear to the room you will be posing in. You will be required to cover up during breaks.

Appointments are for a full semester of classes. Studio classes meet twice weekly for three hours.

The School of Art is seeking individuals to work as figure drawing models. Nude life drawing models are crucial to the success of art programs across the country, and are highly valued by the LSU School of Art. Life drawing and painting classes are central to the training of artists, providing key tools for developing the representational and abstract skills necessary to painting, drawing, printmaking, sculpture, and the design fields.
