GEO Foundation/GEO Academies is a non-profit organization that has been making access to quality schools a reality for children since 1998. GEO currently supports over 3600 students in independent public schools in Indiana and Louisiana with a unique K-14 model that accelerates at-risk students into college and careers while still in high school.

Location: Baton Rouge, LA

POSITION SUMMARY: Provide hands-on, on-site maintenance at several schools and administrative buildings owned by GEO Academies in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, as directed by the Facilities Manager. Repair and maintain fixtures and other furnishings throughout all buildings. These duties include, but are not limited to, repairing/replacing restroom fixtures, replacing ceiling tiles, replacing lightbulbs and ballasts, repairing drywall, touch up painting, and keeping items properly stored at all school sites. The Maintenance Technician will ensure that school buildings and grounds are properly maintained in a manner that emphasizes student and staff safety and the positive, professional image of the schools.

90% Provide hands-on repair, maintenance, and upkeep for school facilities (interior and exterior), as directed by the Facilities Manager, ensuring that all schools are properly repaired and maintained.

10% Perform other duties as assigned. Respond to emergencies as required.

EDUCATION AND TRAINING: Professional certification in related field OR equivalent work experience in a relevant trade.

EXPERIENCE: one to three years of experience in construction-related trade or maintenance of commercial facilities.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, & REGISTRATIONS: Valid Louisiana driver's license required. Must clear all applicable background checks

TECHNICAL SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, & ABILITIES:• Desire to work for a mission driven organization; making a difference in the lives of children and families;• Strong desire and skills to engage in "DIY" "do it yourself" daily repairs common in a school setting;Strong communication, language, and interpersonal skills;

• Ability to work under the direction of the Facilities Manager;
• Ability to work cooperatively with the schools' regular outside vendors (food service, HVAC, custodial, landscaping, etc.) and other vendors brought in to address specific issues;
• Knowledge of building maintenance, materials, hardware, and equipment;
• Knowledge of mechanical systems (electrical, plumbing, HVAC);
• Knowledge of problems, procedures, and methods used in inspecting, analyzing, determining repair and maintenance work to be done, materials to be used, and best processes to complete identified projects;
• Ability to repair issues related to the above that do not require the intervention of an outside vendor;
• Ability to prioritize tasks and adapt to changes without notice;
• Ability to work after-hours and on weekends, as necessary to accommodate the minimal disruption of school activities; and
• Ability to recognize the importance of safety in the workplace, follow safety rules, practice safe work habits, utilize appropriate safety equipment and report unsafe conditions to the Facilities Manager
