Conducts testing and interprets data of highly complex clinical laboratory testing for human specimens. Performs chemical, physical, and/or biological analysis of samples to detect, quantify and characterize substances and organisms of public health or regulatory significance. Receives samples, ensures that samples meet acceptance criteria, and maintains proper sample handling according to laboratory procedures and complying with federal and state laws and regulations related to CLIA, HIPAA and other laboratory compliance regulations. Ensures that assigned samples are tested in a timely manner. Ensures that pre-analytical and post-analytical aspects of the testing process meets acceptance guidelines prior to releasing results. Uses the laboratory information management system (LIMS) to log samples, track samples, enter sample results, and to release reports to Louisiana Department of Health (LDH) and submitting healthcare organizations. Maintains competency for all applicable test methods, including operation and maintenance of equipment and instrumentation and participation in proficiency testing as required by regulatory guidelines. Performs routine daily, weekly, and monthly quality control and quality assurance duties. Performs calibration and preventative maintenance of all equipment, troubleshoots instrument problems, and reports all quality failures to the laboratory supervisor, manager, and/or quality assurance officer. Completes non-conformance reports and root cause analysis for quality control failures. Maintains awareness and understanding of laboratory safety and security by following all laboratory procedures for properly discarding samples and chemical waste. Responsible for reporting unsafe conditions to the laboratory supervisor. Maintains compliance with federal and state laws and regulations and ensures the retention and protection of laboratory data at all times. Other tasks as assigned.
