Description:

St. Vincent de Paul of Baton Rouge is seeking a detail-oriented Bookkeeper to join our team. The Bookkeeper will be responsible for maintaining financial records, managing accounts payable and receivable, and reconciling bank statements. This position primarily manages the accounts payable work for all of St. Vincent de Paul, paying bills, writing checks, and managing the documentation and approvals. This position collaborates with the President/CEO, four program directors, grants management, rental assistance case managers, CFO, COO, Human Resources, and other office staff.

The administrative personnel of St. Vincent de Paul of Baton Rouge collaborate with all St. Vincent de Paul staff by embracing all works of charity and justice. All staff collaborate with other people of good will in relieving need and addressing its causes, making no distinction in those served, because in them St. Vincent de Paul sees the face of Christ. All personnel of the Shelter/Residential Programs participate actively in the homeless Continuum of Care to coordinate services, maximize guest benefit, and minimize duplication of effort.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education, Experience & Training:

  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field preferred (High School diploma and 5+ years relevant work experience may be substituted).
  • 3-5 years of experience in bookkeeping, accounting, or finance, preferable within a nonprofit organization.
Other Qualifications:
  • Ability to work cooperatively with St. Vincent de Paul staff and volunteers to accomplish mission goals.
  • Ability to use a computer, copier, fax and other office equipment. Must be able to use accounting software and use Microsoft Office products.
  • Must be proficient in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Xero, Access) and Microsoft Excel.
  • Familiarity with nonprofit accounting principles and grant tracking. Strong attention to detail and accuracy in data entry and financial reporting
  • Possess excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Must be able to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive financial information.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate within a team environment is a must.
Physical Demands:
  • Must be able to lift 25 pounds.
  • Must be able to sit for long periods while working on a computer, or talking with staff and community members.
  • Must be able to stoop, lift and bend infrequently during the day.
