Performs imaging studies that use nuclear medicine in order to accurately diagnose patient condition in a professional and caring manner. The Nuclear Medicine Technologist, who reports to the Supervisor of Nuclear Medicine or the Director of PET Imaging, administers radioactive materials for clinical imaging and therapeutic purposes, maintains supplies, observes and adheres to radiation safety guidelines, and performs all regulatory radiation surveying and package monitoring to avoid waste and ensure the conservation of all valuable hospital equipment. Other duties include performing radio pharmacy duties to ensure continuity of services, contributing to student education and supervision, and participating in educational and continuous quality improvement programs in order to promote the provision of quality patient care services by the department. may require

Responsibilities

  • Technical Tasks
    • Performs all regulatory radiation surveying and package monitoring to avoid waste and ensure conservation of all valuable hospital equipment.
    • Inspects and maintains emergency and stock supplies, replaces missing supplies, provides documentation on requisitions and logs, and requisitions needed materials in order to ensure the prudent and efficient utilization of equipment and materials.
    • Performs radio pharmacy duties as needed (e.g., assesses radioactive drug usage, prepare pharmacy kits) to ensure continuity of service quality and the provision of high quality patient care services.
    • Performs imaging studies that use nuclear medicine by determining appropriate isotopes, obtaining patient history, and reviewing patient condition in an effort to promote the provision of quality patient care services.
  • Quality
    • Observes and adheres to quality standards established by the department. Participates in continuous quality improvement programs in order to foster the provision of quality health care services by the department and hospital and ensures that all services are provided with compassion, understanding, and respect for others.
    • Follows prescribed techniques in administering radioactive materials for clinical imaging and therapeutic purposes. Observes the rules of radiation safety and the ALARA principal and observes proper exam criteria in an effort toward ensuring high quality imaging exams.
    • Observes and adheres to federal and state radiation safety guidelines and departmental and hospital policies and procedures pertinent to area of responsibility.
  • Collaboration and Partnership
    • Contributes to student education and supervision and maintains knowledge of competency based clinical education plans in an effort toward supporting continuing education efforts.
    • Participates in educational programs, in-service meetings, and training sessions in an effort to share his/her own expertise with others and further the quality of education and personal growth provided to new personnel, volunteers, and interning students.

Qualifications
  • High School; Graduate from certified program of Nuclear Medicine Technology
  • American Registry Radiologic Technologist (N)
  • Nuclear Medicine Technologist Certification (CNMT)
  • BLS Certification
