Position Summary:
The Director, Access & Reimbursement (DAR) leads and coaches a team of Access & Reimbursement Managers (ARMs) responsible for access & fulfillment activities across nephrology healthcare provider accounts and executing the patient access field reimbursement strategy. The role ensures healthcare providers, patients, and caregivers are equipped with the necessary information, tools, and resources to start and stay on therapy, while fostering compliant communication across internal teams including Patient Experience, Specialty Pharmacy, Market Access, and Field Sales.
The Director will mentor, develop, and lead a diverse team skilled in nephrology, healthcare marketplace, and access & fulfillment. They will oversee the impact of access & fulfillment activities on patients starting or maintaining therapy.
Responsibilities:
- Hire, mentor, develop, and lead a field access & reimbursement team responsible for local access & fulfillment activities.
- Ensure patients, healthcare providers, and caregivers are supported with the information, tools, and resources needed for therapy initiation and continuation.
- Use KPIs & analytics to optimize field execution.
- Develop strategic plans and manage the team to execute tactics effectively in a fast-paced environment.
- Create regional vision, foster team culture, motivate performance, build customer relationships, and meet team goals.
- Manage performance, provide coaching, and handle team-related situations.
- Ensure compliance with regulations and policies through oversight and training.
- Coach team members to maximize patient access efficiency.
- Identify and address access and fulfillment obstacles, including pharmacy benefits, specialty pharmacy, and REMS knowledge.
- Develop regional business plans to optimize patient initiation and pull-through metrics.
- Be an expert in access & reimbursement, providing training and guidance to the team.
- Collaborate with sales and leadership teams to support customer needs.
- Establish communication routines with ARMs, hub services, REMS, specialty pharmacy, and payers.
- Support team development through field visits and virtual calls.
- Build relationships with key accounts to facilitate onboarding processes.
- Train team on payer coverage criteria and key technical information.
- Analyze performance data to identify gaps and address capability needs.
Education/Experience Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent experience.
- 10+ years in pharma/biotech or related industry, with experience in specialty medicines and rare disease preferred.
- 5+ years working in specialty medicines with a focus on access & reimbursement.
- 3+ years as a field reimbursement manager and as a team leader.
Additional Skills/Experience:

- Knowledge of access complexities for new-to-market medications and specialty pharmacy products.
- Strong relationship-building skills with HCPs and payers.
- Understanding of insurance reimbursement processes, including benefit verification, prior authorization, appeals, and denials.
- Proficiency in basic computer skills (Excel, PowerPoint).
- Ability to educate and resolve issues virtually.
- Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Proven ability to manage projects, timelines, and budgets.
- Flexibility to adapt to changing plans and strategies.
- Field-based role requiring residence within the region, access to a major airport, and up to 50% travel.
