Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Tax and General Ledger Accountant to support multiple affiliated companies operating across various ERP systems, including Infor M3, SAP, and SAGE. The ideal candidate will have a strong background to file and maintain up-to-date sales and use tax returns for five states, ensure ongoing reporting accuracy, and achieve 100% exemption certification collection from tax-exempt customers. Strong experience in use tax is a MUST HAVE. Additionally, general ledger (GL) accounting, and tax compliance, ensuring accuracy in tax-related financial activities while optimizing compliance strategies.
Key Responsibilities:
Maintain and reconcile tax-related activities in the general ledger, ensuring accuracy and compliance with financial reporting standards.
Assist with month-end and year-end close processes, focusing on tax implications and financial reporting.
Prepare and file tax returns, including sales tax, property tax, and VAT, while ensuring documentation is audit-ready and compliant.
Monitor and interpret changes in tax laws, providing strategic recommendations to optimize tax compliance and reduce liabilities, including Nexus determination and addressing historical filings.
Prepare tax provisions and integrate them into financial statements while generating tax-related financial reports for internal and external stakeholders.
Collaborate closely with external auditors, tax advisors, and the accounting team to ensure accurate and timely tax reporting.
Tax Technology Implementation: Lead the implementation of Avalara for tax filing, set up an exemption certificate tracker, and integrate Infor M3 with Avalara H2H for seamless sales reporting and use tax compliance.
Property, Plant & Equipment Tax (PP&RE): Monitor, file, and ensure timely payment of PP&RE taxes while managing accounts payable for tax-related expenses.
Vendor Compliance: Collect W9s from vendors for accurate FORM 1099 filing and provide exemption certificates as required.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
Minimum of 5 years of experience in general ledger accounting and tax compliance, with a strong focus on use tax.
In-depth understanding of accounting principles, tax regulations, and financial reporting standards.
Proficiency in ERP systems (Infor M3 preferred; SAP and SAGE experience is a plus).
Strong analytical skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple tax-related projects simultaneously.
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to collaborate effectively across departments.
CPA certification or progress toward certification is a plus.
Familiarity with Private Equity (PE) structures is a plus.
