Description:

The Human Resources Director will oversee the development and execution of HR strategies, policies, and practices across all Baton Rouge Landmass campuses. This role will ensure effective human resources management, fostering a positive work environment, and supporting the university's complex workforce. The Human Resources Director will serve as a strategic partner to senior leadership, faculty, and staff, ensuring the alignment of human resources initiatives with organizational goals.

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor's Degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field.
  2. Seven (7) years of proven experience in human resources management within a higher education or large, complex organization.
  3. Strong knowledge of federal and state employment laws, labor relations, and compliance.
  4. Demonstrated ability to manage diverse HR functions.

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Master's Degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field.
  2. Experience working within a multi-campus university setting or in educational institutions.
  3. Knowledge of K-12 school systems and unique HR considerations for educational staff.
  4. HR certification (SHRM-CP, PHR, or equivalent) is a plus.

Leadership & Strategy:

  • Lead and direct the HR function for the Baton Rouge Landmass, ensuring alignment with each institution's goals and values. Provide guidance on strategic HR issues and best practices to campus leaders and department heads.
  • Promote a positive image of the University by participating in community organizations, as well as national, state, and local professional associations.
  • Ensure that applicants, employees, vendors, and University administrators receive excellent customer service in all interactions with the Office of Human Resources.
  • Monitor HR metrics to assess the effectiveness of HR initiatives and identify areas for improvement. Prepare regular reports for senior leadership regarding HR trends, workforce needs, and performance outcomes.

Policy & Compliance:

  • Develop, implement, and monitor HR policies and procedures across all campuses and the SU Laboratory School to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local laws, as well as System and University policies.
  • Regularly review and update HR practices to ensure legal compliance and best practices.
  • Ensure consistent and equitable application of human resource policies, procedures, and government regulations throughout the University by advising senior administrators about the applicable policies, procedures, and regulations, providing training for supervisors, and enforcing the personnel policies and procedures of the University.
  • Remain competent and current on best Human Resources practices through self-directed professional reading, developing professional contacts with colleagues, attending professional development courses, and attending related training opportunities.

Talent Acquisition & Retention:

  • Oversee recruitment and staffing processes across all divisions, ensuring effective sourcing, interviewing, and hiring practices. Work with hiring managers to build strong, high-performing teams. Develop strategies for employee retention and engagement.

Employee Relations:

  • Address and resolve employee concerns and conflicts, providing guidance and mediation where necessary. Foster a positive and inclusive work culture by supporting staff through communication, training, and development opportunities.
  • Advise employees and supervisors regarding performance and disciplinary issues, administer progressive discipline and grievance procedures consistently, listen to employee and supervisor concerns, conduct investigations as needed, and recommend a plan of action.

Compensation & Benefits:

  • Oversee and manage all aspects of the compensation and benefits programs, including designing strategies, setting pay structures, ensuring market competitiveness, administering benefits plans, and advising senior management on employee compensation matters to attract and retain talent.
  • Ensure ongoing promotion and communication to employees and prospective employees about the benefits associated with University employment including insurance benefits, investment options for retirement savings, tuition reimbursement, wellness and recreation opportunities, and training and development opportunities.

Professional Development:

  • Partner with leadership to identify training and development needs. Coordinate professional development programs for staff across all campuses, supporting continuous learning and career growth.
  • Develop a competent, productive and effective personnel staff by supervising, directly and through delegation, professional and support employees.

Performance Management:

  • Implement performance management systems, including employee evaluations, feedback processes, and goal setting. Support managers in coaching and developing staff to achieve performance excellence.
  • Improve organizational effectiveness and productivity by overseeing the planning, development, and delivery of professional development and job-related skill training opportunities.

Wellness, Physical & Psychological Safety:

  • Lead initiatives to promote wellness and psychological safety throughout the campus community. Collaborate with stakeholders to create a supportive and all-encompassing work environment for all employees.
