Job Type: Full Time - Hourly

Salary: $30-$40/hr

SCOPE AND RESPONSIBILITIES

We are a fabrication company that specializes in Design Build process equipment and steel structures. Our niche is that we offer engineering along with steel fabrication. This has led us to see a variety of fabrication projects in the petrochemical and agribusiness, primarily in the Gulf South United States. Our projects have included process equipment, structural steel, miscellaneous steel, lifting devices, tank parts, and construction devices.

Point Solitude is a small, company that is growing and needs to add key personnel to its staff to reach its goal of Best in Class for high quality fabrication. This opening is for the role of Shop Quality Control Inspector. This role is for an experienced technician who can immediately add value to the company. This is not a role for the individual looking to be trained up to the required level of qualification.

In general, you will be responsible for all QC activities in the shop, and most importantly being the last measure of defense against defective products leaving the shop. This role is expected to allow upward mobility as the company grows beyond its current footprint, with opportunities to train and supervise others in inspection activities and manage the overall program. Your responsibilities, as they relate to QC, will involve inspection, client coordination, job specific problem resolution, and job oversight as it moves thru the shop. You will be expected to proactively perform inspections without prompting. You will coordinate routinely with others in matters such as material procurement, document control, cost control, shipping, invoicing, estimating, and drawing development. Your primary in-house interfaces will be the Shop Superintendent, Project Manager, Designers, Engineers, General Manager, and the Owner. Your position will be directed by the Shop Superintendent but administratively report to and be supervised by the General Manager.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES

· Execute the duties of Shop QC in accordance with the Point Solitude Quality Control Manual

· Reject materials, drawings, or workmanship that does not PSMC QC Standard for Quality

· Inspect all products during the various stages of fabrication to ensure zero defects

  • Perform Dimensional checks
  • Perform VT and PT per AWS
  • Perform visual inspections per PSMC's Standard for Quality
  • Perform or manage Material Receiving Inspections
  • Perform inspections offsite on outsourced functions such as forming, machining, and coatings

· Develop and use Travelers to aid in QC duties based on review of drawings and Code

· Create and use Weld Maps to properly document traceability

· Develop and adhere to Inspection Test Plans

· Manage the development, organization, and use of Weld Procedures

· Manage the Welder Continuity Log

· Coordinate 3rd Party NDE and Inspections

· Review procurement activities

REQUIRED KNOWLDEGE, SKILLS, & QUALIFICATIONS

· 5+ years of experience as QC Inspector in an ASME Code or AISC Certified shop

· Resume shall show a trend of increasing responsibility and qualifications performing tasks listed above

· CWI or ability and aptitude to attain this certification

· PT certification, or ability and experience to quickly attain certification

· Experience with various types of Code welded equipment and structures such as structural steel, pipe, tanks, vessels, or cranes

· Strong knowledge of at least one welding code: AWS D1.1, AWSD14.1, ASME IX

· Strong skills using MS Word, Excel, and a PDF editor for documentation

· Familiarity with various types of NDE such as PT, MT, RT, and UT

· Strong understanding of proper welding techniques and causes of defects

· Familiarity with various welding process and advantages of each.

· Experience conducting weld tests and certifying new welders.

· Strong background reading various types of drawings and specifications

· Significant experience in Petrochemical industry

· Strong understanding of the various aspects of fabricating steel equipment and structures

Since 2019, word of mouth and strategic partnerships have expanded our steel fabrication capabilities to process equipment, vessel support structures, personnel access structures, API tank parts, BTH-lifting devices, plate structures, and custom construction tools.

The Point Solitude team specializes in the Design Build approach for all the products we offer. This makes our 32,000 square foot facility, with easy access to I-10, a great choice for sole sourcing projects.

Our shops feature 6 overhead cranes with up to 20-ton lifting capacity and CNC plasma cutting. We are situated on 7-acres offering ample room for laydown, testing, and job staging.
