Job Summary
The Senior Airport Engineer will join our team in the Baton Rouge, LA office. In this pivotal role, the Senior Airport Engineer will spearhead the design aspects of civil airside and landside projects within airport environments. With a keen eye for detail and a proactive mindset, the engineer will play a central role in not only crafting intricate designs but also facilitating bidding phase services and overseeing the seamless execution of construction projects. Success in this position hinges on a comprehensive understanding of FAA regulations, coupled with proficiency in diverse areas such as pavement design, drainage systems, geometric layouts, grading, and cost estimation. The Senior Airport Engineer will be tasked with managing multiple concurrent design initiatives, providing mentorship to engineering colleagues, and upholding the highest standards of engineering ethics and conduct. Responsibilities
- Analyzes project costs; and provides technical advice for design problems.
- Performs project design and design concepts to be developed by junior engineers.
- Plans and reviews the production of engineering drawings and specifications, production of engineering investigations.
- Analyzes technical problems and devising new approaches and alternative solutions.
- Prepares and oversees the preparation of cost and manpower estimates, schedules, and budgets.
- Leads junior professionals and technical personnel on the design and drafting of preliminary and final plans.
- Is responsible for quality control, maintaining quality standards in all work produced, and checking computations or reviewing designs and drawings performed by others.
- Coordinate with project team, contractors, and other consultants to ensure compliance with engineering standards, codes, specifications, and design requirements.
- Maintain organized documentation/archives of design files, drawings, and construction submittals.
- Provide construction assistance and respond to Requests for Information (RFI's) as necessary.
- Coordinate engineering activities with Federal, State, and local agencies.
Qualifications - Experience in design and management of airport projects as well as knowledge in airport engineering design standards, airport operations and construction methods may be an advantage.
- Proven technical writing and communication skills.
- AutoCAD Civil 3D experience preferred.
- FAA Advisory Circular familiarity preferred.
- Adept at problem-solving, including being able to identify issues and resolve programs in a timely manner.
- Possess strong interpersonal skills.
- Must be organized, accurate, thorough, and able to monitor work for quality.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills; superb knowledge in engineering principles, methods, and practices.
- Must be legally authorized to work in the US.
- Must complete a pre-employment screening; ICE is a drug-free workplace.
Education and Experience Requirements - BS in Civil Engineering required.
- P.E. license is required.
- 8 - 10 years of airport design experience preferred.
Work Environment & Physical Requirements This position predominantly involves up to 8 hours per day at a computer workstation, with occasional standing and walking. The employee may occasionally lift lightweight office supplies and materials, typically not exceeding 20 pounds. The office environment is indoors, characterized by controlled temperatures and minimal exposure to adverse conditions. Employees must have the ability to visually discern and differentiate details and colors of objects, and proficiency in recognizing sound, tone, and pitch. Clear and effective verbal and written communication skills are necessary. The role demands adaptability to interruptions and changes in workflow, as well as the capacity to sit for extended periods.
Expected Hours of Work The ICE offices are open from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, allowing an unpaid hour for lunch daily. Work schedules may vary according to the project schedule. This is an onsite position reporting to the ICE office 5 days a week.
