General Summary
The Playgroup Leader works with the BREC Beginnings program at BREC recreation sites, assisting in organization and operation of daily playground/recreation activities, overseeing and working with a group of children, assisting with related inventories and paperwork, adhering to operating and safety rules and regulations. BREC Beginnings is a recreation-based, social learning program for children ages 3-4.
Requirements and Job Specifications
Required Education: High school diploma or equivalent; and associate's degree from an accredited college or university.
Area of study (Major) Required: Recreation, Physical Education, Therapeutic Recreation, or Elementary Education or closely related.
Two years of experience working with youth may be substituted for the college education requirement.
Certification(s) Required: First Aid and CPR within 180 days of hire

Functions and Duties- Assisting with organization, promotion and leading one or more activity classes with emphasis on pre-kindergarten educational instruction such as: alphabet, numbers, calendar; other programs such as nature study, arts and crafts, games, music, special features, events sports activities, field trips.
- Acting as advisor, counselor, manager of group of participants.
- Communicating, enforcing, and adhering to rules and regulations for operation, safety and welfare of participants.
- Reporting to supervisor on activities, participants, plans, programs, problems and needs recommending action, carrying out policies, procedures and objectives of programs
- Maintaining appropriate records, inventories, making reports.
- Preparing activity room including dusting, mopping, cleaning tables, setting up/dismantling tables and bulletin boards.

EMPLOYEE/FACILITY PRIVILEGE: BREC employees who actively participate in BREC programs gain a better knowledge and understanding of facility needs. This generates understanding and cooperation in interdepartmental needs. Some restrictions may apply.
PAID TIME OFF: Part-time employees who work a minimum of 29 hours per week and at least 1,000 hours will be eligible to accrue Paid Time Off (PTO) hours. The purpose of the "Paid Time Off" benefit is to allow part time employees greater flexibility to take time off for vacation, sick and/or personal time. The maximum accrual is 40 hours per fiscal year. Once employees reach the cap, the employee will not accumulate any more PTO until some of the time in the account is utilized. After the balance goes below the maximum, the employee will begin accruing PTO again. Except for illness, employees are required to obtain supervisor approval in advance for the time off.
PSLF: BREC is a qualifying employer for public service loan forgiveness. Employees who have Federal Direct Loans and have made 120 payments on the Federal Direct Loans (after Oct. 1, 2007) may be eligible for the remaining loan balance to be forgiven.
