Job Description:

The postdoctoral researcher will engage in cutting-edge research focused on the application of benefit/cost analyses to coastal green and gray infrastructure, with an emphasis on financial risk modeling and the valuation of ecosystem co-benefits. The expectations for this position are 50% effort on a NOAA funded Effects of Sea-Level Rise project on quantifying the benefits and costs of coastal green and gray infrastructure for the purposes of sea-level rise adaptation in the Pacific Northwest. This project would involve collaborations with multiple institutions throughout the Pacific Northwest, including Oregon State University, Pacific Northwest National Laboratories, and the Partnership for Coastal Watersheds. The remainder of the effort (50%) of the postdoc is expected to investigate how wetland and floodplain restoration can be funded through reductions in flood risk and other ecosystem co-benefits using continental scale flood models developed by the University of Bristol and Fathom.

25% Research Conduct:
Conduct advanced research in environmental economics and finance applied to coastal green and gray infrastructure. Develop and implement economic models to analyze the financial implications of green and gray coastal infrastructure and the economic valuation of ecosystem services. Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to integrate economic and financial perspectives into broader environmental science and engineering projects.

25% Programming and Data Analysis:
Apply quantitative methods to assess the economic, social, and flood risk impacts of green and gray coastal infrastructure. Utilize programming languages (such as MATLAB, Python, and R) to analyze datasets and develop computational models.

25% Publication and Dissemination:
Prepare research findings for publication in high-impact scientific journals and present at conferences.
Present at stakeholder engagement meetings and incorporate stakeholder feedback into research.

20% Collaboration and Networking:
Collaborate with faculty, researchers, and graduate students within the department and across relevant disciplines. Establish connections with external partners, stakeholders, and industry professionals to enhance the impact and relevance of the research.

5% Additional duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Ph.D. In Civil Engineering or Related Field.

Knowledge of environmental economics, finance, or both. Valuation of ecosystem co-benefits. Work with diverse and large datasets using programming languages such as R, MATLAB, or Python. Proven track record of publications in high-quality journals.

Preferred Qualifications:

Ph.D In Civil Engineering.

1-4 Years of Experience.

Experience with stakeholder engagement.
Experience in working with flood/hydrodynamic models.
Experience with flood hazard and risk models such as FEMA's HAZUS
