Description:

General Sand & Gravel ("GSG") is a Southeast Louisiana trucking company that offers a variety of trucking and hauling services. They specialize in bulk material hauling and supporting on-site trucking needs. We are seeking an experienced Truck Dispatcher to join our team.

The Truck Dispatcheris responsible for the efficient scheduling & coordination of both company fleet & subcontracted trucks. The role requires expert communication & organization skills as it directs all trucks supporting the GSG's customers' needs. The Dispatcher serves as the link between GSG management, clients, & truck drivers by planning & assigning daily trucking service, adjusting & updating daily truck schedules, coordinating live customer updates to the requested service, planning upcoming work, & distributing schedules to truck drivers.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Focus on incoming phone calls, negotiation of rates & delivery specifics, & document all calls in an organized log.
  • Create efficient truck driver routes & schedules.
  • Effectively dispatch truckers.
  • Intake of schedule changes or changes to requested service & provide effective communication with appropriate parties to ensure that GSG truck drivers, managers, & customers are informed.
  • Display customer care that results in high quality customer service.
  • Execution & filing of delivery documentation.
  • Positively engage with diverse personalities & communications styles.


Requirements

  • Knowledge of trucking regulations and laws.
  • Understanding of trucking logistics.
  • Analytical capacity to effectively problem solve difficult situations while maintaining a positive, professional demeanor.
  • Well versed technologically with software products including QuickBooks, Nextraq, Smart Sheet, & the Microsoft Suite,
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Clear, effective communicator.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

The following environmental/atmospheric working conditions are commonly, but not always, a requirement of this position. The actual working conditions may vary.

Work environment includes office machines, electronics and filing systems. Frequent lifting materials weighing up to 50 pounds. Constant sitting, typing, and reaching for long periods of time. Must have good hand/eye coordination. Required to sit at a computer for several hours at a time. While performing the duties of this job, the employee can be exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration. The noise level in the work environment of the company's trucking yard can be loud. The position regularly works or travels through areas containing mechanical parts and in outside conditions that include inclement weather, heat and humidity, and exposure to dust.
